Rainforests & Wetlands

Where the jungle, marshes, and wetlands beat to the rhythm of biodiversity.

The Argentine Northeast is one of the most diverse regions in landscapes, cultures, and species in the country. A mosaic of tropical forests, wetlands, and Chaco woodlands stretches across the provinces of Misiones, Corrientes, Chaco, and Formosa, revealing unparalleled natural richness.

In Misiones, the Atlantic Forest (Selva Paranaense) protects one of Argentina’s highest concentrations of biodiversity. Here, around the majestic Iguazú Falls, tapirs, giant anteaters, pumas, deer, agoutis, coatis, and over 400 bird species such as toucans, bellbirds, and forest eagles thrive. Nearby reserves like Urugua-í and Yabotí focus on conservation efforts to protect threatened species such as the jaguar, the largest feline in the Americas.

The Iberá Wetlands in Corrientes are among the largest wetlands on the continent. In this network of lagoons, marshes, and restored grasslands, you can observe capybaras, marsh deer, maned wolves, caimans, otters, and an impressive variety of waterbirds up close. Thanks to the work of Rewilding Argentina, species such as giant anteaters, red macaws, tapirs, and jaguars are returning to these landscapes.

In the Gran Chaco, a region shared with neighboring countries, dry forests, palm groves, and seasonal wetlands unfold. In provinces like Chaco and Formosa, the environment becomes harsher and less explored, but no less vibrant. The Bañado La Estrella, in northwest Formosa, is Argentina’s second-largest wetland and one of the country’s best-kept secrets: here, you can spot curiyú anacondas, river otters, chajás, storks, and occasionally even jaguars.

In this region, wildlife is not only a main attraction but also a symbol of resilience. Numerous rural communities, indigenous peoples, and organizations actively work on responsible tourism, conservation, and environmental education, integrating human well-being with that of the ecosystems.

Traveling with Click Fauna through the Litoral immerses you in an unexpected Argentina, where the green is more intense, water is life, and every encounter with a wild animal transforms the way you see the world.
